About Program Manager Access Control ------------------------------------ Thanks for downloading PM Access Control, Shareware Version 1.00S! PM Access Control is SHAREWARE! A fifteen day evaluation period is recommended. After that, if you like and use PM Access Control, you must REGISTER! Many magazine help columns and power tip articles tell you that the Windows Program Manager can be protected from configuration changes by unauthorized users through entries in your PROGMAN.INI file. The main problem is that Microsoft didn't allow users to easily modify the settings in Progman, nor did they protect the changes with any sort of password protection. (They didn't even document it in the regular Windows manual!) PM Access Control is an answer to these shortcomings. Start PM Access, and set your Progman Manager restrictions easily. Click on "Save Changes", restart Windows, and you have the PM under control! This capability is extended to REMOTE NETWORK drives, for administering groups of network users! Installation ------------ The archive file you just opened, PMACCS.ZIP, contains this file and the file PMAV100S.ZIP. Copy PMGV100S.ZIP to a temporary directory, and "unzip" it. It will create the following files: Name Size Date Time ------------ -------- -------- -------- PMACCESS.EXE 32041 10-29-94 3:20a PMA.HLP 46771 10-29-94 2:35p Please see the Windows Help file PMA.HLP for complete Installation and Operations instructions. If you have associated .HLP files with the Windows Help application, just double-click on PMA.HLP in the File Manager; otherwise run WINHELP.EXE and open PMA.HLP using the "File" menu. One additional support file is required to use PM Access Version 1.00: VBRUN300.DLL, the runtime module for Visual Basic 3.0. If you use any other Visual Basic 3.0 programs, you have this file, probably in your \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Otherwise, VBRUN300.DLL is available from the same BBS, on-line system or software distributor where you obtained PMACCS.EXE. To execute PM Access, add its icon to a Program Manager Program Group, or click on the executable file name PMACCESS.EXE in File Manager. See the "Security" topic in the PMA.HLP file for more discussion. NOTICE ------ PM Access Control is SHAREWARE! A fifteen day evaluation period is recommended. After that, if you use PM Access Control, you must REGISTER! Registration for a private individual at home is $5; for users in a business or government, the fee is $15. Send your Registration Fees to: VB Expressions 64 Burning Brush Drive Rochester, NY 14606-4642. Kindly include the Version number and the source where you got PM Access Control. Because PM Access Control is not crippled in any way, we will not send you a "Registered" version; rather you gain license to continue to use the version you have. This allows VB Expressions to control costs (have you priced diskettes and mailers?) and allows you to comply with copyright law. You can also look for other VB Expressions utilities: PM Group Sorter, which allows you to control the order of listing of files in your Program Manager Windows menu; PM Fonts, which allows you to change your Program Manager fonts from the Microsoft default to any installed screen font. Desktop Assistants include Draggin' Viewer, a drag-and-drop file viewer/program launcher, a Windows Magazine "Superior Shareware" selection, Printer's Daemon, a drag-and-drop file printing utility, and Trash Free-K!, a drag-and-drop file deletion utility. Also look for Smartclp, a Windows Clipboard enhancer and the DOS/Unix Text Translator, which lets you translate between these two popular computing environments. Good stuff (if we may say so ourselves!) We'd be interested in your comments or suggestions on PM Access Control.
